The ZNRG2061 is a smart system-on-chip for arc-fault detectionin photovoltaic (PV) solar power systems. Its trainable algorithmdelivers safe and reliable signaling of arc-faults while toleratingtypical noise patterns present in solar power systems.
The algorithm continuously monitors the photovoltaic DC currentand observes any current fluctuation, ultimately performing a fastFourier transform (FFT) analysis. The frequency spectrum iscompared to a previously memorized baseline. If the signature ofan arc-fault is detected, a failure event is generated. To preventnuisance tripping, the baseline and other criteria are determinedwith a training procedure. Training is initiated via the graphicaluser interface (GUI) configuration software.
In addition to a current transformer, which also acts as galvanicisolator from the primary high voltage, the ZNRG2061 system-onchiprequires only a few external components. It contains all necessarydata acquisition, signal conditioning, and DSP functions toprovide reliable arc-fault signaling.
Self-diagnosis is performed continuously, ensuring that the deviceoperates safely at all times.To simplify design-in and accelerate future systems UL listings,the ZNRG2061 is designed in compliance with UL 1699B andrecognized according to UL 1998.

The ZNRG2061 Evaluation Kit is designed to help the userevaluate IDT’s ZNRG2061 Smart Photovoltaic DC Arc-FaultDetector IC. The kit includes the ZNRG2061 Evaluation Boardwith a sample ZNRG2061 mounted, a current transformer, and amicro-USB cable for connecting the kit to the user’s computer.
When the Evaluation Board is connected to the user’s computervia a USB port, the ZNRG2061 can be monitored for arc-faultdetection. A test arc circuit enables self-testing of the device.
IDT’s ZNRG2061 Arc Analyzer Software provides a graphicaluser interface (GUI) to enable configuration, data analysis, andcommunication with the ZNRG2061 mounted on the EvaluationBoard. The GUI is also used to activate the training sequence thatallows the ZNRG2061 to adapt its algorithms for safe and reliabledetection of arc faults The GUI is available for download on IDT’swebsite.
