The AMC1304 is a precision, delta-sigma (ΔΣ)modulator with the output separated from the inputcircuitry by a capacitive double isolation barrier that ishighly resistant to magnetic interference. This barrieris certified to provide reinforced isolation of up to7000 VPEAK according to the DIN V VDE V 0884-10,UL1577 and CSA standards. Used in conjunction withisolated power supplies, the device prevents noisecurrents on a high common-mode voltage line fromentering the local system ground and interfering withor damaging low voltage circuitry.

The input of the AMC1304 is optimized for directconnection to shunt resistors or other low voltagelevelsignal sources. The unique low input voltagerange of the ±50-mV device allows significantreduction of the power dissipation through the shuntwhile supporting excellent ac and dc performance. Byusing an appropriate digital filter (that is, as integratedon the TMS320F2807x or TMS320F2837x families) todecimate the bit stream, the device can achieve 16bits of resolution with a dynamic range of 81 dB (13.2ENOB) at a data rate of 78 kSPS.

On the high-side, the modulator is supplied by anintegrated low-dropout (LDO) regulator that allows anunregulated input voltage between 4 V and 18 V(LDOIN). The isolated digital interface operates froma 3.3-V or 5-V power supply (DVDD).

The AMC1304 is available in a wide-body SOIC-16(DW) package and is specified from –40°C to+125°C.

This reference design measures power qualityparameters in a polyphase energy measurementsystem and calculates total harmonic distortion (THD),fundamental readings, and standard metrologyparameters such as active and reactive energy andpower. Phase-to-phase angles are also calculated tohelp prevent incorrect installation of the system. Thisdesign uses isolated shunt current sensors to maintainaccuracy in harmonic analysis and also immunity frommagnetic tamper attacks.

The TIDA-01088 reference design implements power quality parameter measurement in a polyphase energy measurement system. Total harmonic distortion (THD), fundamental readings, and standard metrology parameters such as active and reactive energy and power are calculated. Phase to phase angles are also calculated to help prevent incorrect installation of the system. This design uses isolated shunt current sensors to maintain accuracy in harmonic analysis and also immunity from magnetic tamper attacks.
