The T4240 QorIQ multicore processor combines 12 dual-threaded e6500 Power Architecture® processor cores for a total of 24 threads with high-performance datapath acceleration logic and network and peripheral bus interfaces required for networking, telecom/datacom, data center,wireless infrastructure, and mil/aerospace applications. The T4160 QorIQ multicore processor combines 8 dual-threaded e6500 Power Architecture® processor cores.

This chip can be used for combined control, datapath, and application layer processing in data centers, WAN optimization controllers, application delivery controllers, routers, switches, gateways, application and storage servers, and general-purpose embedded computing systems. It delivers approximately four times the computing horsepower of the P4080, Freescale’s current flagship QorIQ multicore SoC.
